Right now you’re mostly practicing social distancing in the attempt to “flatten the curve” and slow down the spread of COVID-19. From being around your family more and eating home-cooked meals daily, to simply having more time to relax and indulge in some self-care.
But too much relaxation can easily make us break our habits and lose motivation to reach our goals, whether they’re fitness-related, health or simply weight-wise. We’ve all seen the memes circulating Instagram — from “I’m on my seventh pound of quarantine” to “From Barbie to Carbie”, and, although we use them to have fun, they remind us of the lifestyle we start having when our daily routines are no longer present.
It’s normal to change your habits due to the changing routine. Many of us find comfort in food or simply snack more because we’re at home and relaxing more than usual and if you’re happy with your current routine — don’t change it! But, for some of us that don’t feel at ease, there are two things we can do in this situation — keep up with the current state or change our routine again!
In case you choose to continue your current habits — well done! Make sure to take care of yourself to the best of your ability and find time for yourself. Take care of both your mind and your body as, once this quarantine is over, you’ll get back to your regular self!
If you choose to start doing something now — congrats! Whether your goal is to not gain weight or to actually get fitter, this article is meant for you.
We prepared 5 best tips on how to manage your weight while in quarantine!
1. Stay busy!
Most of us have a habit of eating when we’re bored or just out of habit. This may not have been a problem when you worked from 9 to 5 and had a few breaks but now, at home, it seems snacks are always around. Make sure to occupy yourself to avoid excessive eating between meals, unless you’re feeling hungry! Opt for healthier snacks such as fruits or protein that will make you feel full and give your body more energy to continue on with the day!
Did you know that we sometimes eat because we’re thirsty? Yes, your brain signals that it lacks the nutrient but we choose to replenish it in a wrong way. We all sometimes forget to drink water and it seems this problem is even more present when working from home. Get your Spring bottle (find it here) and track your daily intake automatically or focus on drinking a minimum of 8 cups of water a day! This will not only help you manage your weight by preventing you from eating when you’re just thirsty but will also boost your performance and keep you hydrated (and we all know about amazing benefits being hydrated has!).
It’s important to continue being physically active, not only for managing your weight but to keep your body healthy. It’s been proven that being physically active boosts your immunity which is especially important when dealing with the coronavirus. Exercising for a minimum of 30 minutes daily should be a standard — and we usually do it without thinking. Walking to the store, office or simply running errands accumulates steps and makes us reach the minimum of the needed activity for the day. In case you have your Leaf, you already know what a difference it makes!
In case you’re not familiar with the exercises or not sure how to start, we have a solution for you!
